Installation of underground switching station for Fluvius in Knokke-Heist
To meet the increasing energy demand in Knokke-Heist and to future-proof the electricity supply, grid company Fluvius is renovating and expanding an underground switching station, 50 meters from the sea dike. Fluvius contacted Deba, the medium-voltage specialist, to help realize this power extension. Inventive craftsmanship in all areas was required to bring this project to a successful conclusion. The renovation of the existing substation is anything but routine work. Given that the medium-voltage cubicles all have to be placed in an underground basement of the Grand Hotel residence. Fortunately, our Deba colleagues can think ‘out of the box’ in unusual situations and draw on our years of experience (more than 40 years). Providing additional protection is much needed in the underground basement because here you have no way out of the overpressure in case of a short circuit. The Arc-Killer from Switchgear Company provides the solution in this case. The “arc-killer” extinguishes possible short circuits immediately.
