Case-study wind turbine project
Case study of wind turbine project development
Deba is also at your service for renewable energy projects!
As part of Sustainability Day, we would like to highlight a realized project on renewable energy. We do a case study on the windmill project of Gheys and asked some questions to a Sales and Renewable Energy Project Engineer at Deba.
How did the project come about?
“The question came from a customer, Yvo Pellens, with whom we had been building a good relationship for many years. He is in charge of industrial electricity works and renewable energy for various companies.” (Nico Di Stefano)
What was the purpose of the project?
“Producing renewable energy in a sustainable way at the Genk site of the transport and logistics company, Gheys.” “This project fits perfectly within Deba’s sustainable vision of business.
So we gladly entered into cooperation. Deba was in charge of this project from A -Z: from design to execution. We also delivered and installed the high-tension station and peripheral equipment. It is a project where a lot of “energy” crept in. It was started in 2019 and the wind turbines were fully operational at the end of May 2020. . We zijn in ieder geval enorm trots op het resultaat” (Nico Di Stefano)
Producing renewable energy: What exactly does the project entail?
The plant consists of a main procurement station of CDC which feeds 4 sub-cabs. All cabins are equipped with DF-2 modular medium voltage cubicles from SwitchGear Company (SGC).. The cubicles are equipped with a disconnection relay, RP600 DIGITAL PROTECTION RELAY and Bi-Di relays as general protection. The cubicles are constructed from AA-31 to AA-35. The distribution transformers were supplied by Cotrabel. Two wind turbines act as renewable energy sources. These can produce as much as 4.5 MW of energy used for the operations of the end customer Gheys. For example, the bulk trucks, silos, production lines and containers in the rinse hall are major energy consumers. The total project amounts to an integrated capacity of 4.5MW.
The company Gheys meets the strictest environmental standards, thanks in part to the generation and use of renewable energy for the rinsing hall, but of course also for other activities. The medium voltage installation was inspected by AIB Vincotte & Electro Test, as a result of which Gheys now has the green power certificate.
Why choose to partner with Deba?
“It was obvious to choose Deba, as a medium-voltage specialist. But more specifically because of their knowledge and expertise in connecting renewable energy systems to the medium-voltage grid. The wind turbine project was born!” (Yvo Pellens) “If you also want to opt for energy saving systems at high voltage level and link them from the low to medium voltage grid, we are the ideal partner for you! Study agencies often call on us for this.” (Nico Di Stefano) In short, Deba is a vertically integrated Belgian company with more than 40 years of experience. Our aim is to relieve our clients of all their worries and ensure flawless follow-up: from delivery and placement to commissioning of the medium-voltage cabin.
The motto?
Helping companies to become more sustainable by using renewable energy. And as always, responding with lightning speed to customer demand!
